Having a bird’s-eye view of the developments in the field of means and modes of communication only during the last decade, one realizes that there have been revolutionary evolutions that changed so many things all around us as a society whose basic need itself is communication, along with food, air, and shelter.

Communication is inevitable in the way that one can’t just help but communicate. I shall definitely communicate some or the other thing to some or other person even if I do not wish to. At least I shall convey the lack of my wish to communicate! Thus, it is inescapable. Then why not practice it as effectively as possible to get the best out of it? Hence, the process of developing it as a skill.

Language is said to be an art of listening. I would like to extend this analogy a little more to say that communication is an art of interpretation. All of us interpret things the way we want to. If only we can interpret more rationally and unbiasedly, it can help us get rid of many hurdles in our communication with others, leading to a more effective and happier communicative experience.

The way to this can start with practicing listening, since language is one of the most vital parts of our communication, and listening is the basic skill to develop language. Effective listening will eventually lead us to more fruitful communication.

Let us know your thoughts on developing listening skills for better communication and a better quality of social life it offers.
