Young students are now struggling to decide which career path to choose for their higher education, and we hope that this article will help you gain some clarity about what steps you need to take in order to evaluate your career decisions.

It is important to address that a big concern and overwhelming fear of students is committing to a career choice as it will sustain them for their entire life. However, with the flexibility of our new world’s work culture, please remember that your job roles, fields of interest, and motivations will continue to evolve and change over time.

Consider the following tips to begin your journey towards choosing a career fit for you:

Assess your own interests, priorities and motivation. What do you like learning about? How do you like to spend your time? What are your life’s priorities? What does success mean to you? How important is money in your career growth?
Assess your own strengths and weaknesses: Reflect upon your aptitudes, strengths and weaknesses. What are you good at? In which fields do you excel most frequently? Which areas do you need to work on to improve yourself?
Make a list of different industries and highlight the ones that interest you. Do you want to pursue a career in education, finance, technology, entertainment, politics, medicine, social sciences or research? Go deeper into understand what each of these industries actually entails.
Align your higher education with your career interest. Ask yourself if your chosen stream of study for Classes 11-12 and undergraduate studies have prepared you to pursue the career of your choice.
Meet a career counsellor to take the psychometric assessments required to help you gain more accurate data. These tests will assess your personality, interests, aptitudes and other aspects and will also suggest career options that are best suited for you.
